Youth Workforce

Funding Secures Program for Summers of 2023 and 2024

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors approved more than $2.2 million in funding for youth summer workforce opportunities. The program, which received unanimous support, provides valuable employment opportunities for eligible youth participants between the ages of 16 and 21 in the summers of 2023 and 2024.

The program will be provided in partnership with two organizations, each offering a wide variety of ways for youth to become a part of the workforce.

  • The Greater Phoenix Urban League (GPUL) was awarded more than $1.6 million to operate its program for two summers. The 2023 program began on July 1 and will run through September 30 of this year. The program will return in 2024, kicking off on February 1, 2024, and continuing through September 30, 2024.
    • Interested youth can sign-up through GPUL at GPHXUL.org
  • Equus Workforce Solutions will receive $596,819 to operate its program from February  1, 2024, through September 30, 2024.

This collaborative effort ensures a comprehensive approach to youth development and workforce readiness. The program seeks to reach participants in cities and towns beyond the Greater Phoenix area, prioritizing access and inclusivity.

Participating youth will be matched with employment opportunities within designated in-demand industries – reflecting Maricopa County's commitment to nurturing and empowering the next generation of workforce leaders. By providing youth with practical skills and exposure to professional environments, the Summer Youth Workforce Program plays an important role in igniting interest among youth in career pathways by introducing them to what possibilities will come once they have completed their educational journey.
