Stars, Stripes, and Microchips

With the 4th of July right around the corner, which is the busiest time of year for animal shelters, Maricopa County Animal Care & Control (MCACC) will host a microchipping event to ensure our local dogs have proper identification.

As many celebrate 4th of July with fireworks, and summer storms roll in that can blow open a gate, the risk of losing your dog increases this time of year. National Microchipping Month, which is June, aims to raise awareness of the importance of making sure your dog has correct and up to date information so they can be returned home faster if they are ever lost.

“The majority of the stray dogs who come into the shelter, don’t have a microchip or any other form of identification, so it’s difficult for them to be returned to their owner and therefore they stay at the shelter and contribute to our capacity issue,” said Kim Powell, MCACC Communications Officer. “Microchips are a great way to identify your dog in case their collar or name tag becomes loose and falls off.”

To help pet owners avoid the heartbreaking nightmare of searching for a missing pet, MCACC is hosting a “Stars, Stripes, and Microchips” event from June 15 to June 30, 2023. Microchips will be offered at MCACC for $4 as the 4th of July approaches.
