Today, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors appointed Devin Del Palacio to fill the Arizona House of Representatives vacancy in Legislative District 19.
LD-19 covers part of the Southwest Valley, primarily in Supervisorial District 5.
“Devin is someone who has spent most of his adult life trying to make life better for the area where he grew up, including as a community organizer and a school board member,” said Supervisor Steve Gallardo, District 5. “I appreciate his commitment to public service and am confident he will serve District 19 well in the House of Representatives.”
Del Palacio currently serves on the Tolleson Union High School District Governing Board and as Chairman of the National Black Council of School Board Members. He is a life-long Arizona resident who has been recognized by the City of Phoenix and the Arizona School Board Association for his work to create equitable schools and safe neighborhoods.
Board members selected Del Palacio from a list of three candidates submitted by a citizen’s panel they appointed, in accordance with Arizona law. The candidates had to live in the district and be a member of the same party as the person who vacated the office. In this case, a Democrat.
Devin Del Palacio will serve through the remainder of the term. This position is on the ballot in the November 8, 2022 General Election.
