Recent Town Hall meetings for the Sawmill Fire in Soniota, AZ incorporated American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters and real-time captioning (CART) to increase emergency messaging to the deaf and hard of hearing community. The Emergency Response Interpreter Credentialing program (ERIC), provides training to sign language interpreters and CART providers in emergency and disaster messaging. The ERIC program was a collaboration between the Arizona Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs, The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, and the Maricopa County Department of Emergency Management.
